A driver died in a wreck while street racing Wednesday night on South Academy Boulevard in southeast Colorado Springs, police said.
Shortly after 8 p.m., a small black sedan was speeding alongside another vehicle southbound on Academy from East Pikes Peak Road when the sedan struck a large pickup turning left from Academy onto Airport Road, police said.
The sedan’s driver was killed. The pickup’s driver was taken to a hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, said police spokesman Lt. Howard Black.
The other vehicle believed to have been involved in the race took off after the crash and has not been located, police said.
Police did not release the name of the driver who was killed or the driver of the pickup.
