Clarke County, VA : David Preston Wedlock Sr., 61, dies in a single-vehicle accident in Clarke County on Wednesday morning, March 18, 2015

A North Carolina man died in a motor vehicle crash in Clarke County, state police reported Wednesday.
David Preston Wedlock Sr., 61, of Fayetteville, was driving a 2009 Hyundai southbound on Gun Barrel Road about 1/4-mile from Nations Spring Road when the vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree, Sgt. F.L. “Les” Tyler said Wednesday afternoon. A caller reported the crash around 6 a.m. but police are still trying to determine when the incident occurred.
Wedlock was pronounced dead at the scene, Tyler said. The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was wearing a seat belt, he noted. Trooper B.G. Davis is investigating the crash. Speed is believed to have been a factor in the crash but alcohol does not, Tyler said.
The Clarke County Sheriff’s Office and the John H. Enders Volunteer Fire Company and Rescue Squad also responded to the scene to assist police.
