Haysville, KS : Woman dies in crash on Turnpike in southern Kansas early Monday morning, August 22, 2016

One woman is dead following a vehicle and pedestrian accident on the turnpike. It happened early Monday morning around 4:30 a.m.

According to the Kansas Turnpike Authority, the accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-35 at exit 42 in Haysville.

The KTA said the woman was attempting to cross the turnpike from east to west. The woman was struck by the Dodge pickup in the southbound lanes. She has been identified as 23-year-old Priscilla Dawn Smith.

The 43-year-old pickup driver from Oklahoma did not stay on the scene and kept driving to get to a tollbooth to notify authorities.

One lane of the turnpike was closed as officials investigated the accident.
