Boston, MA : Stoughton man, 26, dies in Attleboro breakdown lane crash on Tuesday, 5th June 2018

A 26-year-old Stoughton man was killed after crashing into a Freightliner wrecker in the breakdown lane early yesterday morning.

Michael A. Avelar was driving a 1994 Honda Civic on Interstate 95 south in Attleboro when he drove into the rear of the wrecker, state police said. It was determined he was dead on the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, state police said.

Attleboro officers called for a tow truck to remove a disabled vehicle at approximately 2:06 a.m. near mile-marker 0.6 in Attleboro, state police said. A 2016 Freightliner wrecker arrived on scene, parked in the breakdown lane and was unoccupied when Avelar drove into it, according to trooper Kenneth Downey from the State Police Foxboro Barracks, who responded to the crash.
