Upper Darby , PA : 17- Years old Rejoi Reji killed and his father injured while preparing to wash his father Car on Friday ,May 8th 2015

A kind gesture by two sons to wash their dad’s car turned deadly when the father accidentally struck and killed his 17-year-old child.

Rejoi Reji was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after 8 p.m. Friday in the alley of the 300 block of Cheswold Road, Drexel Hill.

“It’s just a horrible, horrible accident,” police Superintendent Michael Chitwood said. “The father is devastated.”

According to Chitwood, the victim and his 18-year-old brother were in back of the house ready to wash their father’s car with buckets of water.

“The father pulls up and we don’t know exactly what happened because there was a language barrier,” Chitwood said. “The boy may have been bending over and he didn’t see him or the gas pedal stuck.

“He could barely speak English. The dad hit the boy and slammed him into the garage door. The dad was so upset he suffered chest pains and was transported to Delaward County Memorial Hospital. I would guess it was from the stress of hitting his son.

“Right now, it’s just a tragic accident unless we learn otherwise.”

The victim, a junior at Upper Darby High School, was prounounced dead at the scene.

The father, 50, remains hospitalized at DCMH for treatment.
