NEW CASTLE, IN : Choking driver sets stage for Interstate 70 crashes on Tuesday, 10th December, 2019

A semi driver on Tuesday afternoon began choking on a piece of pizza while driving on Interstate 70 in Henry County.

Things quickly went downhill from there.

According to Indiana State Police, the choking truck driver pulled off the interstate’s westbound lanes near the 120-mile marker, and his vehicle became struck in mud.

When wreckers arrived to pull the semi back onto the interstate, traffic became congested in the area, according to an ISP press release.

About 2:10 p.m., 31-year-old Misty Gonzalez of Pittsburgh, Pa., was driving her 2019 Mercedes westbound when she failed to notice traffic stopped in front of her near the 123-mile marker, not far from the Ind. 3 interchange. Her vehicle struck the rear of a 2016 Jeep driven by Bryson Nash, 23, of Gallatin, Tenn.

Gonzalez and a passenger in her Mercedes, 63-year-old Paul Karschkes of Westmont, Ill., were treated at Henry County Hospital. Nash was not injured.

The stalled traffic stemming from that collision apparently led to still another crash,
