Marine killed in I-8 crash identified

A U.S. Marine who was killed in a Saturday morning multi-vehicle car crash on Interstate 8 has been identified as Ricky Jones, who was also a volunteer firefighter in New York state.

The Frontier Volunteer Fire Company's Facebook page identified Jones as the victim of the accident, which occurred about 5 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 8 near state Route 163. Niagara Falls fire company said Jones was a volunteer firefighter there and his father, Dan Jones, had been a past president of the fire company.

"Rest in peace brother we'll take it from here," reads the Facebook post.

According to the California Highway Patrol, one person was killed and three other people were injured in the crash, which occurred when one of the vehicles crashed into a barrier on the westbound side of I-8 and another three cars slammed into it.

The Medical Examiner's Office identified the person killed in the crash as a 20-year-old, active-duty Marine but did not release his name.

Three other people were injured in the crash; two were taken to Rady Children's Hospital and one other to Scripps Mercy Hospital, according to the CHP.

The crash is under investigation.
