An East Hampton man died Monday after his motorcycle crashed into a car in the eastern part of the state.

Torrence Botsford, 63, was thrown from his Honda motorcycle in the crash, which state police said happened at about 3:30 p.m. Monday on Route 44 in Eastford.

Botsford and the car, a 2009 Toyota Corolla, had been traveling eastbound on Route 44, also known as Pomfret Road, when the accident took place.

Police said the car had begun to slow down and turn left into a driveway along the road and Botsford was traveling at “an elevated rate of speed” when he crashed into the driver’s side of the car.

Botsford, of West High Street in East Hampton, died at the scene.

The driver of the car, a Maine woman, was taken to Windham Hospital by ambulance for treatment of her minor injuries. Her passenger in the car, a Maine man, was not hurt.

Police said both the car and the motorcycle were severely damaged in the crash and were towed from the scene.
