New York,NY : Fort Erie teen, 16, killed in collision on September, Tuesday 26th 2017
Condolences were pouring in across social media on Tuesday for Cole Doneff, who was identified by friends and family as the victim of a fatal car crash in Fort Erie.
“The Falcons lost a great player but a better person,” said the Niagara Falls Falcons in a Facebook post. Doneff was a pitcher and infielder with the team in the Greater Niagara Baseball Association. “Cole will always be a Falcon and his laughter and spirit will not be forgotten. We send our condolences to his family and friends.”
The 16-year-old was killed Monday afternoon after two vehicles collided. At around 2:34 p.m., emergency responders were called to the intersection of Garrison Road at Helena Street.
The investigation determined a 17-year-old male from Ennismore, Ontario, was driving a 2009 Dodge Journey with five additional teenage passengers, who were all residents of Fort Erie.
The Dodge was travelling east on Garrision Road when it entered into the intersection at Helena Street and collided with a 2014 BMW 550I that was being driven south by a lone 63-year-old Niagara Falls man.
The collision caused the Dodge to roll onto its roof and come to final rest within the intersection. The BMW remained on its wheels and also came to final rest in the intersection.
The 16-year-old was a passenger in the Dodge and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision. He was transported to a trauma centre in Western New York but died of his injuries shortly after he arrived.
All other occupants received minor injuries.
Investigators are asking that residents and businesses in the area of the intersection review any surveillance or dash camera footage that may have captured the involved vehicles approach to the intersection and/or the collision itself.
Any witnesses are asked to contact detectives on 905-688-4111, ext. 5500.
The collision remains under investigation by detectives of the Niagara Regional Police collision reconstruction unit.
