Salt Lake City, UT : Man killed in crash involving suspected stolen car in South Salt Lake on Monday, January 9, 2017

Police say a driver is dead after he was hit by a stolen car in South Salt Lake.

Authorities said the crash happened after officers tried to stop the car in a motel parking lot on State Street about midnight Monday.

South Salt Lake police say the drive instead sped away instead and smashed into the other car.

Three people were taken into custody and all four lanes of the busy road were closed for hours following the crash.

The deceased driver wasn’t immediately identified.
