New Orleans, LA : 49-year-old bicyclist dead after being struck twice by vehicles on South Saratoga Street on Saturday afternoon, April 18, 2015
A bicyclist was killed after being struck twice by vehicles Saturday afternoon near Tulane University Hospital.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, the incident happened just before 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Cleveland and South Saratoga streets.
Witnesses told the NOPD that the 49-year-old bicyclist was riding eastbound on South Saratoga Street when he disregarded a stop sign. He was struck by a 35-year-old man driving a red Pontiac Grand Am, who was driving down Cleveland Street.
The NOPD said the driver pulled over to the side of the road, but a 67-year-old man driving a black Dodge Caliber down South Saratoga Street also struck the bicyclist.
Officials said both drivers stayed at the scene until officers arrived. The victim was taken to a hospital, but died from his injuries.
According to the police report, the NOPD cited the 35-year-old driver for not having a driver's license. An investigation will continue into the accident.
