Charlotte , NC : 10- Year old girl injured after hit by car while riding her bike near Independence Blvd on Tuesday night, March 10th 2015

A 10-year-old girl was rushed to the hospital after she was hit by a car while riding her bike in southeast charlotte Tuesday night, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officers.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. in the 6600 block of Idlewild Road, near Independence Blvd.

Police said the girl rode her bike into the path of the car and that the driver tried to stop but couldn't in time.

The child was not wearing a helmet and paramedics described her injuries as potentially life-threatening.
