Woodland, CA : Fairfield woman dies in solo car accident on I-80 on Monday, February 13th 2017

A Fairfield woman who was killed on Monday morning in an accident in Interstate-80 near Davis has been identified.

Dead is Valerie Jones, 46, who the California Highway Patrol reported, was killed in a solo-vehicle accident while traveling eastbound just east of Mace Boulevard.

The CHP reported that officers learned of the crash around 10:15 a.m. and was initially called in as a traffic collision. However, on their arrival, patrol officers found that a 2015 Nissan, occupied solely by Jones had for an unknown reason gone out of control and left the highway. It was not known how fast the vehicle was traveling.

The Nissan, according to the CHP, continued traveling in a southeasterly direction after it left the highway and collided with a tree. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision remains under investigation and officials don’t yet know if alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.
