OMAHA, NE : Driver cited after Jeep crashes through Eppley Airfield window on Monday, November 21st, 2016
A man has been cited after an incident Monday at Eppley Airfield that left three people injured, including one seriously.Omaha Police tell WOWT 6 News that 72-year-old Jerome Merwald of Omaha had gone to pick up his brother Frank from the airport. While Jerome used the restroom, Frank Merwald, 66 of Chatsworth, California, got into the driver's seat of the Jeep.
"He was confused with the vehicle. He said there were two shift levers because it's a four wheel drive vehicle. He went in reverse, and when he adjusted, he basically punched it going into drive and jumped the curb lost control, struck the two people, and went into the door," Conahan said.
He lost control outside of the United Airlines check-in entrance just after 1:30 p.m.
The vehicle hit the driver's brother and a woman in a wheelchair getting into a car before smashing into a glass revolving door and window.
The driver's brother suffered a left ankle fracture and a head injury which is not believed to be life-threatening. The woman, 49-year-old Shyrell Windom from Kyle, Texas, complained of pain in her left leg. The driver sustained minor injuries.
