The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit has identified the 73-year-old Seaford man who was struck and killed on Concord Pond Road on Saturday, Jan. 28, as Fred L. Savage.
This crash remains under investigation.The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a motor vehicle crash that occurred last night and claimed the life of a 73-year-old Seaford man.
The crash occurred around 6:06 p.m. yesterday, Saturday, Jan. 29, as the victim was attempting to walk across the southbound lane of Concord Pond Road, in the area of Orange Blossom Lane, east of Seaford. As the victim, who was wearing all dark clothing and not carrying a light, entered the roadway, he stepped directly into the path of a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe. The operator of the vehicle, 70-year-old William A. Jenkins, of Seaford, unsuccessfully tried to avoid striking the pedestrian, who was thrown into the northbound lane of the road.
The victim was treated at the scene by Sussex County Paramedics before being transported to Nanticoke Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The victim's name is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin. Alcohol use on the part of the victim is being considered as a factor in the crash.
Jenkins, who was properly restrained at the time of the crash, was not injured. Alcohol, drug use, and excessive speed on Jenkins' part are not being considered as factors in the crash.
The incident remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police. Concord Pond Road, in the area of Orange Blossom Lane, was closed for about three hours as the crash was investigated and cleared.Delaware State Police are currently investigating a serious motor vehicle crash in which a pedestrian was struck in Seaford.
The initial investigation has determined that the crash occurred at 6:07 p.m. on Concord Pond Road, in the area of Orange Blossom Lane. One person has been seriously injured.
More details will be released at the conclusion of the investigation.
