Phoenix, AZ : Man dead after north Phoenix crash at the intersection of 51st Avenue and Union Hills Drive on Saturday, 28th December, 2019

One man is dead and another is in custody following a two-vehicle crash Saturday morning in north Phoenix, according to police.

Phoenix police are investigating the crash that occurred shortly after 3:30 a.m. at the intersection of 51st Avenue and Union Hills Drive, officials said.

Matthew Schwartz, 33, was driving a 2012 Chevy Cruze southbound on 51st Avenue and crashed into the back of a 2015 Ford Focus that was stopped on 51st Avenue at Union Hills Drive, according to police.

The engine compartment of the Cruze caught fire, and the force of the crash pushed the Focus into a traffic pole.
