EMMETSBURG, IA : Graettinger boy dies after fiery crash near Emmetsburg on Friday, December, 15th 2017
A Graettinger boy has died as a result of the injuries he suffered in a fiery car-versus-semi crash Friday morning on U.S. Highway 18, according to Trooper Alex Dinkla, of the Iowa State Patrol.
The crash occurred at about 7 a.m. a quarter-mile east of 440th Avenue, which is just west of Emmetsburg, according to Iowa State Patrol crash reports.
Hunter Williams, 17, was driving a Chevrolet Cobalt westbound when he crossed the center line and collided head-on with a semi-trailer, the Iowa State Patrol reported.
Both vehicles caught fire, Dinkla said.
Weather and road conditions are not believed to have been factors, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
It’s not yet known what caused Williams to cross the center line, Dinkla reported.
The semi-trailer was driven by Timothy Mohr, 42, of Manson.
Mohr was transported to Palo Alto County Hospital by a friend, the Iowa State Patrol reported.
Williams was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The Emmetsburg Police Department, Emmetsburg Ambulance, and the Iowa State Patrol were on scene.
Williams died on Saturday, according to obituary information.
An autopsy has not yet been performed, according to Dinkla.
The crash remains under investigation.
