Elmer Township, MI : Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash on Thursday afternoon August 14th 2014
The Sanilac County Sheriff’s Office investigated a two-vehicle personal injury accident that occurred at about 12:55 p.m. Thursday on Marlette Road near Marsh Road in Elmer Township
“According to deputies, a 2005 Pontiac Montana van driven by 52-year-old Leeann Hodgins of Sandusky was westbound on Marlette Road when she stopped for a tree limb that had fallen in the roadway,” states a news release. “A Yamaha R6 motorcycle being driven by 33-year-old Adam Smith of Yale was also traveling westbound behind the vehicle, when he failed to stop behind the van. The motorcycle struck the rear end of the van causing the rider to be ejected from the motorcycle.”
Smith was transported to McKenzie Hospital by Marlette EMS for treatment of his injuries, according to the release. A passenger in the van, 78-year-old Jay Simmons, sought treatment for her non-life threatening injuries sustained in the accident. All occupants in the vehicle were wearing seatbelts, and Smith was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Sanilac County Deputies were assisted at the scene by Marlette EMS, Brown City Fire Department, and the Marlette and Brown City police departments.
