The crash happened on Highway 11 at West Gate Road near Table Rock State Park at about 2 p.m., the South Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Pickens CoHonda Civic from triple fatal on Highway 11 unty Coroner Kandy Kelley and troopers said a 25-year-old and two children, ages 9 and 14, were in a Honda Civic (pictured left) heading south on state Highway 11 when an SUV crossed the
center line and hit their car head-on.
All three were wearing seat belts and died at the scene, troopers said.
The coroner identified the victims as Megan Mullinax, 25, Kandice Broome, 14, Furman Broome, 9. Mullinax was the step-sister of both Broome children.
The coroner said the family was from Greenville.
Beth Brotherton with Greenville County Schools said that Kandice was an eighth grader at Lakeview Middle School, where she was in the band. Brotherton said Furman was a fourth grader at Monaview Elementary School and waHonda Pilot from

Brotherton said grief counselors will be on hand at both schools. Both schools are also working together to raise money for funeral expenses, and the fund will be set up through the Bank of Travelers Rest, Brotherton said.
Brandy Thomas, a friend of the family, said the parents of Megan, Kandice and Furman left home to look for them when they were unable to reach them by phone.
"When they got back the police were at their house and told them that the children were at the hospital," Thomas told WYFF. "They went to the hospital and that's when they found out the news."
Troopers said a 16-year-old was driving a Honda Pilot (pictured) north on Highway 11 with two 13-year-old passengers. All three, who were all wearing seat belts, were seriously injured and were taken to Greenville Memorial Hospital, troopers
said.
Cpl. Bill Rhyne with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said an accident reconstruction team was still investigating what may have led to the crash.
Thomas said the children's mother told them the family could not afford the funeral expenses.
"The thought actually came across her mind that she may end up seeing if she can actually bury one child on top of another," Thomas said. "That's that's that's not a burden that you should have to deal with, I don't think. "
A vigil to honor the victims took place at Washington Avenue Baptist Church Monday night.
