Las Vegas, NV : A motorcyclist was injured in a morning crash at Twain Avenue on Tuesday, July 19, 2016
A motorcyclist was taken to the hospital Tuesday morning with potentially life-threatening injuries after a crash near Twain Avenue and Swenson Street.
The motorcyclist was traveling east on Twain approaching Hazelwood Street when the road curved and he failed to maintain his lane, Metropolitan Police Department fatal detail Sgt. Robert Stauffer said.
The motorcycle went off the roadway’s right side into a wrought-iron fence and the rider tumbled into the street, police said.
The accident’s cause is under investigation, but speed does not appear to be a factor given the lack of tire marks in the road, police said.
The motorcyclist had no identification on him during the crash but he is believed to have been wearing a helmet, Stauffer said.
“Helmets are crucial,” Stauffer said. The rider suffered head injuries. If he was wearing the helmet, the injuries would have been much worse had he not been, he added.
A tag on the motorcycle suggests that the vehicle might have been recently purchased, police said.
Police spokesman Jesse Roybal said the motorcyclist was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.
Roads in the area are closed, Roybal said.
Metro’s fatal detail is responding because of the nature of the injuries, but the rider was alive as of about 12:10 p.m., Stauffer said.
