GAFFNEY, SC : A Greenville man has died nearly a week after he was injured in a head-on collision in Gaffney on Sunday, August 27, 2017

The coroner confirms a Greenville man has died nearly a week after he was injured in a head-on collision in Gaffney.

Coroner Dennis Fowler says Charles G. Castor, 84 of Greenville, passed away on Sunday while receiving medical treatment at Spartanburg Medical Center.

Castor was involved in a three-vehicle collision on I-85 S in Gaffney on the night of August 22. The coroner said Castor was headed south on I-85 around 9:55 p.m. when his vehicle was struck by another vehicle heading north in the southbound lanes.

On impact, Castor's car struck another vehicle that was also headed south, the coroner continued.

Per trooper reports, the collision was blocking lanes near MM 95 Shelby Highway for a few hours.

Troopers said a 92-year-old Iva man was charged with driving the wrong way.

The investigation is ongoing. An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday.

Per the coroner, this is the 16th fatal traffic accident in Cherokee County for 2017.
