Police were looking for a car involved in a deadly hit-and-run accident that left a 79-year-old man dead Thursday afternoon when they found it at the scene of another emergency that evening.Authorities have released the identity of the victim of a fatal hit-and-run accident in Newmarket, as well as the identity of the owner of the vehicle that struck him.Police said witnesses called 911 just after 3:20 p.m. Thursday, saying that a black Volvo hit a man walking on Grant Road -- just west of the Ash Swamp Road intersection -- and then took off. When Newmarket police arrived, they found Charles Dearborn, 79, of Newmarket with life-threatening injuries. Although Newmarket Fire & Rescue rushed to the scene, Dearborn died of his injuries shortly after they arrived."Upon their arrival, [we were] able to determine that the pedestrian was deceased and that the vehicle that was involved in the accident fled the scene," said Lt. Chris Vetter, Troop A commander of the New Hampshire State Police.Vetter said that another medical call came in just an hour and a half after the accident from a residence on S. Main Street in Newmarket, reporting that Peter Wallace, 44, of Newmarket, was unconscious on the front lawn. When police arrived, they found a black Volvo with front-end damage in the driveway."There was evidence that the vehicle that we found was involved in the accident," said Vetter.Wallace -- who owns the Volvo -- was transported to Exeter Hospital in life-threatening condition and remains on life support.Initial investigation revealed the Volvo was operating erratically prior to striking Dearborn, but Vetter said that police still don't know who was driving the Volvo when it crashed."It's been a pretty exhausting afternoon for the Newmarket police and the state police as we investigate this. We anticipate continuing the investigation well into the night," said Vetter. No charges have been filed in this crash.
