A teenager killed Dec. 3 after a vehicle collision on the 15 freeway has been identified as 17-year-old Brian Castaneda, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s office.
Castaneda was killed when he crawled out of a vehicle that had rolled over. He was struck by a minivan and was consequently pinned under the car he had just escaped, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Jorge Rodriguez, 18 of Redlands, was driving Castaneda in an Acura Legend south on the 15 freeway around 11:30 p.m. on a rainy Wednesday, according to the highway patrol.
The vehicle flipped on its roof north of Kenwood Avenue. Castaneda and Rodriguez escaped the vehicle, but according to CHP, Castaneda was struck by 60-year-old Jaime Menzel, of Apple Valley, driving a Ford Windstar. Menzel hit the Acura. Castaneda was trapped underneath the Acura, according to CHP.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP.
Alcohol or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in the collision, according to CHP.
