West Springfield , MA : School crossing guard struck and killed at the intersection of Elm and Garden streets on Monday morning ,december 15th 2014

A school crossing guard in West Springfield who had just helped a child safely cross the street has died after being struck by a vehicle. Police say the woman was struck at about 8:45 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Elm and Garden streets not far from the Coburn Elementary School. Her name has been made public. Schools Superintendent Michael Richard says the woman was a longtime crossing guard who had just guided a student cross the street. The driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with in investigators. The death remains under investigation and there was no word on charges.
