AIKEN COUNTY, SC : New Ellenton woman dead after weekend crash on Saturday, November 12th 2016

A one vehicle crash near New Ellenton has left one woman dead.

The Aiken County Coroner says a 2006 Toyota Tundra with two people in it was driving south on Woodland Drive when the driver ran off the roadway, overcorrected, and struck a large tree on the passenger side of the vehicle. The crash happened on November 12 at around 9:50 pm.

The Coroner says Justin Smith of New Ellenton was driving the vehicle and his friend 24 year old Megan Milam, also of New Ellenton was the passenger. Both were transported to Augusta University Medical Center where Milam was pronounced dead. Smith was hospitalized with critical injuries.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office are investigating the crash. Toxicology is pending.
