Minneapolis ,MN : 14-year-old Aeris Ewing of St. Anthony struck and seriously injured after crash on Sunday ,August 9th 2015
Accident reconstruction is under way in Sunday's collision of a teen bicyclist and a car driven by Ray Widstrand, the Minnesota State Patrol said.
The practice is standard for collisions resulting in serious injuries or death. A full review will take two to three months; the Patrol won't release further information until then.
The bicyclist, 14-year-old Aeris Ewing of St. Anthony, was struck by a car Widstrand was driving. He tried to turn left from southbound Silver Lake Road onto Interstate 694 in New Brighton as she moved through the crosswalk.
The teen's injuries were described as "serious" by the Patrol; she was taken to Children's Hospital-Minneapolis.
A hospital spokeswoman said Monday that Ewing's family members will not be releasing any information about her condition and are asking for privacy.
Widstrand wasn't hurt in the crash.
Widstrand was the victim of a beating in St. Paul in 2013 that inflicted severe brain damage. He underwent multiple surgeries and is still working toward recovery.
He now lives in New Brighton with his family. The Pioneer Press reported in May that he was working part-time and able to drive with certain restrictions.
