Minneapolis,MN : Man killed in crash at Rideau Ferry Regatta on August, Saturday 19th 2017
A Minnesota man has died in a crash on the water during a race on Lower Rideau Lake Saturday afternoon, the Ontario Provincial Police said.
An OPP news release said that at around 2 p.m., emergency services were called to the collision that occurred during the 120th Rideau Ferry Regatta in Rideau Ferry.
The initial investigation shows that a boat competing in a race became airborne and the operator was ejected. The 69-year-old man was taken to hospital via paramedics with a life-threatening injury. He was pronounced dead shortly after. His identity is being withheld by the OPP until next of kin are notified.
“This investigation is in its early stages and an update will be issued when confirmed and accurate information becomes available,” police said.

The regatta features approximately 50 boats, many reaching extreme speeds on the water. Between 1 and 5 p.m., vintage hydroplane and Ontario Power Boat Racing Association's drag boats were scheduled to race.
