Bend City, OR : Madras woman and two children died after three-car crash in Bend on Tuesday May 17, 2016.

A Madras woman and two of her children died Tuesday in three-car crash south of Madras, troopers said.
Anita J. Bemrose, 49, died at a Bend hospital and two of her children — boys age 12 and 14 — died at the scene, the Oregon State Police said in a news release. A 10-year-old boy, also Bemrose's son, was riding in the car and is being treated for life-threatening injuries at the same Bend hospital, troopers said.Troopers said it appears Bemrose was driving north on U.S. 97 when she stopped in her lane to make a left turn onto Southwest Bear Drive. Another driver traveling north almost hit Bemrose, who was driving a 2003 Pontiac van, but passed her on the highway's right shoulder.
But a second northbound driver rear-ended the van while traveling at highway speeds, pushing it into the southbound lane, where it was hit by another driver.
The highway has single north and southbound lanes in the area. They're not separated by a median. The speed limit for cars jumped from 55 to 65 mph on that stretch of U.S. 97 on March 1.
Bryan McDonald of Redmond, 41, was driving the 2015 Ford van that rear-ended Bemrose. He was taken to a Redmond hospital for treatment of injuries that don't threaten his life.
Shirley Ayres of Madras, 69, was driving the 2008 Honda Accord that hit Bemrose in the southbound lane. She was taken to a Madras hospital to be treated for injuries that don't threaten her life.
Capt. Bill Fugate, a state police spokesman, said late Tuesday he didn't know the names of the two boys who died in the crash.
No one has been charged in the crash, which is under investigation, Fugate said. He said the case, once complete, will be submitted to the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office for review.
