Chambersburg, Pennsylvania
One man was killed and five others were injured in a three-vehicle crash in Franklin County on Aug. 15.
Thomas E. Titus, 51, of Gettysburg, died after going into cardiac arrest. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle he was driving.
The crash occurred near the intersection of Mt. View Avenue and Route 30 at 7:48 a.m., according to state police.
Police said Paul R. Williams, 63, of Chambersburg, was driving a Honda Civic in the eastbound lane of Route 30 near Mt. View Avenue. Titus and Lynaya M. Daywalt, 33, of South Mountain, were driving west in separate vehicles approaching Mt. View Avenue.
Williams allegedly began to drift into the center turn lane of Route 30, crossing over into the westbound lanes and into the paths of Titus driving a Hyundai Elantra and Daywalt driving a Suzuki XLR.
Police said Williams then struck Titus' vehicle on the driver side front bumper area, causing Titus' vehicle to spin. Williams' vehicle then rotated and went into Daywalt's path, causing her to strike the passenger side door of Williams' Civic.
Titus' vehicle was forced into the grass on the shoulder, while Daywalt drifted north, also stopping on the shoulder of the eastbound lane of Route 30, the report states. Williams' Civic stopped partially in a center turn lane.
Titus went into cardiac arrest on scene and was transported to Chambersburg Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
Williams was transported to York Hospital with injuries of unknown severity, as was Daywalt. Daywalt had two children in her vehicle, who suffered minor injuries and were transported to Chambersburg Hospital.
Titus was born in Hanover and was a former member of the Hanover Jaycees, according to his obituary. He coached the Jaycees Little League team for many years and enjoyed pumpkin chunkin, animals and working on his 1967 Mustang.
He was married to his wife, Lisa, for 28 years and had two daughters and a granddaughter.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Aug. 20 at Murphy Funeral Home, 501 Ridge Ave., in McSherrystown. Friends and relatives will be received at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m.
