HOUSTON, TX : Driver wanted in deadly hit-and-run crash on North Fwy on Saturday, October, 7th 2017
Houston police say they are looking for the driver who fatally struck a man who was trying to get help after a single-car accident on the North Freeway.
The northbound lanes of I-45 North Freeway between the beltway and Rankin have reopened after being closed several hours for the police investigation.
Sgt. E.T. Fendia with HPD says several men were in a vehicle that hit a barrier around 3:20 a.m.
One of those men saw a disabled SUV on the other side of the freeway, and ran over to try and get some help with their crashed vehicle.
That is when police said a car slammed into the man before it kept going down the northbound lanes of I-45 North.
All investigators know is that a car hit the pedestrian and left him for dead in the roadway.
Fendia said the smallest piece of the vehicle left behind at the scene will eventually lead them to a make and model of the vehicle, but that could take some time.
The sergeant said it is possible the driver did not know they hit someone.
"If it was you, please come forward. Let us put this case to rest and find out everything that happened tonight," Fendia said. "This man has a family, and we want to give them everything for closure."
