Man killed, woman injured when car slams into grocery store
A single vehicle accident early Saturday morning, October 26th, has left a 23-year-old man dead and a 20-year-old woman injured.The crash happened at about 2:15 a.m. in the 600 block of W. Greenfield.Surveillance video shows the vehicle traveling east bound on Greenfield Ave., seemingly losing control just before S. 7th St., and slamming sideways into the wall of Carniceria el Campesino grocery store.“I heard a big screeching of tires and then a big bang,” said Jonathan Calderon.The woman suffered non-life threatening injuries and is being treated at an area hospital. The man was killed in the accident.The accident took out the gas line. We Energies crews worked almost seven hours to repair the damage.Firefighters opened a door to the grocery store to investigate any problems inside. After that, an apparent burglar entered the same way — two different times within 15 minutes — robbing the cash register and unsuccessfully attempting to rob the safe.Authorities are still investigating both the accident and robbery.
