One person was killed and another injured in a vehicle accident in Cabarrus County Tuesday afternoon.

The wreck happened just after 6 p.m. on Highway 601. Troopers confirmed that one person, later identified as 44-year-old Reginald McNeil of Mint Hill, was killed in the crash.

Officials said McNeil was driving a Ford Explorer when he crossed the center line and struck and struck a sedan, being driven by 22-year-old Tyrees Bennett of Charlotte, head-on.

McNeil was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bennett was taken to Carolinas Medical Center. The extent of his injuries and his condition have not been released.
