Woman dies after crashes into semi on I-5 near Woodland
A Kelso, Wash. woman died after the SUV she was riding in crashed into a semi truck on Interstate 5 near Woodland on Monday.
Washington State Trooper William Finn said a motorhome towing a trailer was southbound on I-5 when it lost debris that began covering the freeway. Traffic behind the motorhome was slowing down to avoid the debris when the crash occurred.
Finn initially said that the woman was driving the SUV, but in a later update he said that the woman was a passenger and the Kelso man who was driving is being investigated for possible impairment.
Their names have not been released.
Medics took the driver of the semi truck to a hospital for precautionary reasons.
The crash caused a major backup on I-5 south. The Washington State Department of Transportation said at 2:25 p.m. that all southbound lanes were open, but that traffic was backed up for more than 10 miles.
