FORT GAY, WV : 3 hurt in construction zone crash in Wayne County on Monday, 24th June 2019

Police in West Virginia say a highways worker at a construction zone was among three people injured in a crash.

Wayne County sheriff’s deputies tell news outlets the accident occurred Monday along U.S. Route 52 in Fort Gay.

Deputies say the Division of Highways worker was standing on the side of the road holding a sign telling drivers to stop or slow down. Deputies say a delivery truck approaching the construction zone collided with a motorcycle ahead of it, then struck the worker.

The worker and the drivers of the truck and motorcycle were taken to hospitals. The extent of their injuries wasn’t known.

State Department of Transportation Secretary Byrd White says the 25-year-old worker had started his job about a month ago. White says “even one accident like this is too many.”
