Gibbon, NE : Red Cloud woman died after crashing on Interstate 80 in south-central Nebraska on Tuesday, July 12, 2016
A Red Cloud woman suffered fatal head injuries after a one-vehicle rollover accident near the Gibbon interchange on Interstate 80 Tuesday, Nebraska State Patrol said.
Trooper Jeff Boston tells NBC Nebraska that a green Ford Explorer, driven by Brenda Reed, 59, of Red Cloud, attempted to pass another vehicle, but failed to yield to a third vehicle already in the passing lane. Reed turned back into the driving lane, over-corrected and the SUV rolled.
The patrol said Reed was not wearing a seat-belt, was ejected from the vehicle and landed on the pavement, suffering head injuries. She was taken to CHI-Good Samaritan, Kearney. The state patrol and family members confirmed to NBC Nebraska that Reed died of the injuries.
A passenger in the vehicle, Stefanie Dedrick, 40, of Hastings, was wearing a seat-belt and was injured, but was treated and released.
The westbound lanes of I-80 were closed for about an hour while emergency workers cleared the scene.
