West Pottsgrove, PA : 2 die in Route 422 crash near Stowe early Saturday morning, February 4, 2017
Two people were killed and another person had to be flown to a trauma center following a crash on the Route 422 bypass in West Pottsgrove early Saturday morning.
An eastbound car careened off the bypass near the Stowe exit and crashed into a tree, landing down a steep embankment near the Schuylkill River.
The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. No other vehicles were involved.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office is handling the investigation, a normal practice when a fatality is involved.
Police from West Pottsgrove were assisted at the crash scene by police from North Coventry, Lower Pottsgrove, Upper Providence, Pennsylvania State Police and Montgomery County Detectives.
Rescue operations were handled by West End Fire Company, Pottstown, North Coventry, Sanatoga, Amity fire companies and Goodwill Ambulance and Rescue.
The Route 422 bypass was closed between Douglassville and Stowe throughout the early-morning hours Saturday.
The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office has not released the identify of the two victims pending notification of next-of-kin.
