Canon, CO : Kansas man dies in three-vehicle accident on U.S. 50 west of Cañon City on Saturday, July 30, 2016
A Kansas man died Saturday in a three-vehicle accident on U.S. 50.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating the fatal crash that was reported at 5:13 p.m. at milepost 273, which is 5 miles west of Cañon City.
According to a press release, a 2015 Jeep Cherokee was traveling eastbound on U.S. 50 when it moved into the left lane to pass another vehicle. The Jeep reportedly continued into the right-hand lane and collided with a 1999 Chevrolet Astro Van. The Chevrolet was westbound in the right lane on U.S. 50.
A 1992 Dodge Dakota was westbound on U.S. 50 in the right lane behind the Chevrolet. The Dodge reportedly collided into the trailer that the Chevrolet was towing.
The driver of the 2015 Jeep was identified as Jack Barber, 75, of Monument. Barber and the front passenger were wearing their seat belts. Barber was transported to St. Thomas More with moderate injuries. The passenger was not injured.
The driver of the 1999 Chevrolet was identified as David Burris, 59, of Wichita, Kan. Burris was wearing his seat belt and was pronounced deceased on-scene. The right front passenger was wearing a seat belt and was transported to St. Thomas More with minor injuries.
The driver of the 1992 Dodge was Patrick Luginbill, 50, of Colorado Springs. Luginbill was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.
Speed and alcohol/drugs are not factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
