Richmond, VA : 75-year-old-man killed in moped / tractor trailer crash in Charles City on Friday afternoon, April 8, 2016

Alfred D. Johnson, 75, of Charles City County was killed in a crash in Charles City on Friday afternoon when his moped pulled into the path of a tractor-trailer.

According to Virginia State Police, the crash occurred at 12:27 p.m. at the intersection of Wayside and Roxbury roads.

The moped - a 2009 Yamaha - was traveling west on Wayside Road (state Route 607) and pulled into the path of a 1997 Kenworth tractor-trailer, which was headed south on Roxbury Road (state Route 106).

The driver of the tractor-trailer, Robert W. Kee, 49 of Richmond, attempted to avoid the moped, according to state police, and was not injured in the accident.

Johnson, who was wearing a helmet, was transport to VCU Medical Center, where he died from injuries suffered in the crash.

Virginia State Police trooper S. Petway investigated the crash, and no charges will be filed.
