Cedar County, IA: Muscatine residents killed after colliding with parked semi on Sunday, July 26th 2015

Two Muscatine residents died after colliding with a parked semi-trailer in Cedar County. The collision happened at mile marker 271 on Interstate 80 around 4:35 a.m. on Sunday.According to an Iowa State Patrol crash report, Gregorio Javier Tapia, 22, was driving in the eastbound lanes when the car left the roadway and struck the rear end of the semi. The collision sent the car back onto the interstate, blocking both lanes of traffic. The eastbound lanes were closed for nearly four hours while emergency responders worked the scene.Both Tapia and his passenger, Anthony Nunez, 19, were pronounced dead at the scene. The man inside the semi, Sonny James Heath, 45 of Michigan, was treated and released at the scene.The portion of Interstate 80 that was closed after the crash reopened by 8:30 in the morning. The Iowa State Patrol is investigating the crash.
