Cleveland ,OH : Northern Ohio woman died aftercar crashed into her living room on Tuesday ,July 28th 2015
A northern Ohio woman died Tuesday when a car crashed into her living room, striking her as she sat on a couch, authorities said.
An Ohio State Highway Patrol official said the woman's 5-month-old son was likely saved from serious injury when the car flipped his baby bouncer, protecting him from the vehicle's undercarriage.
The accident occurred shortly before 8 a.m. in Amherst Township, about 35 miles west of Cleveland.
Debra Makjut, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Adrianna Young, 23, received minor injuries and refused medical treatment.
Patrol Lt. C.M. Smith said Young told troopers she was on her way to work and swerved to avoid hitting an animal in the road in front of Makjut's home. The car, a 2002 Toyota Camry, left the road and was launched into the living room after driving over a set of slanted cellar doors at the front of the home.
Neighbors lifted the car high enough so that Makjut's 12-year-old son, Jacob, could pull his brother from beneath the vehicle, Smith said. Five-month-old Jaxon Makjut was listed in stable condition at a hospital.
Young, of Oberlin, was not cited. Smith said an investigation of the crash could take weeks to complete.
