Sterling,IL : Dixon man dies in interstate crash in Iowa on January, Monday 5th 2018
A Dixon man was one of two people killed when the car he was a passenger in slammed into a bridge pillar Monday after the driver lost control on a snow-covered highway.
Devion M. Luster, 21, of Dixon was riding in the back seat of a 2007 Mercury Montego driven by Jacolby J. Burks, 24, of Cedar Rapids when Burks lost control of the car on Interstate 380, just past the Highway 30 exit in southern Cedar Rapids, at 11:22 a.m. and struck the pillar, according to Cedar Rapids police.
Both men were pronounced dead at the scene.
A front-seat passenger, DeShawn Woods, 25, of Cedar Rapids, was taken to UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital where he was treated for serious injuries.
No other information was available on the crash.
Burks and Luster were two of seven people killed in weather-related crashes across Iowa on Monday.
Iowa State Patrol Sgt. Nathan Ludwig said that between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m., state troopers responded to 185 crashes after a storm system dumped several inches of snow across the Midwest.
