Yuba City, CA : Portion of Hwy. 99 near Yuba City shut down after a crash involving two big rigs and two vehicles Thursday morning, May 7, 2015

All lanes of northbound Highway 99 near Yuba City were closed for hours Thursday morning after a crash involving two big and two vehicles.

An Acura was going south on Highway 99 near Lincoln Road just before 6:55 a.m. when it clipped a Toyota Camry heading in the same direction, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The driver of the Acura then lost control of the vehicle as it cross over the center median and hit a big rig going north, causing the rear axle and the back end of the trailer to be sheared off, officers said.

A piece of the big rig then hit a second big rig traveling in the same direction, causing minor damage.

As a result of the crash, the Acura was ripped in half and debris was scattered across the Highway 99, causing the roadway to be shut down between Bogue and Lincoln roads.

Only one lane of northbound Highway 99 was open to traffic for a period of time as crews cleaned up the crash site, but all lanes have since reopened.

Two people inside the Acura and the driver of the Camry were taken to the hospital with minor to moderate injuries, CHP said.

The two big rig drivers were not hurt.

The first big rig involved in the crash was carrying 40,000 pounds of grapes, which had to be offloaded from that truck.

All lanes of southbound Highway 99 remained open after the crash.
