Cincinnati, OH : University of Cincinnati redshirt freshman running back dies in motorcycle crash on Thursday afternoon September 25th 2014

University of Cincinnati football player Chamoda Kennedy-Palmore, who recently earned his spot on this year's team, died Thursday in a motorcycle accident. The school said in a release that the redshirt freshman running back was riding his motorcycle in Cincinnati when a collision occurred with a sports utility vehicle shortly after 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Kennedy-Palmore was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Officials said he was wearing a helmet. The 19-year-old Kennedy-Palmore, of Cincinnati, attended Lakota East High School. He was in his second year with the Bearcat football team and was part of a tryout group of players who recently joined the team after the season opener against Toledo Sept. 12. A spokeswoman from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said Kennedy-Palmore's family wished to express its gratitude for the outpouring of prayers from the university community and requested privacy. Kennedy-Palmore's death comes just over a year after the University of Cincinnati community and football team mourned the loss of redshirt freshman offensive lineman Ben Flick. Flick of Hamilton, Ohio, was killed in a traffic accident on his way back from a victory over Miami of Ohio in nearby Oxford on Sept. 21, 2013. There were four students in the car. The driver — an 18-year-old Miami student who was friends with the Cincinnati players — also was killed. Two redshirt freshman receivers were injured. Kennedy-Palmore's teammates were informed of his death following Thursday's practice. "Our football program and university has suffered through another great tragedy," said Head Coach Tommy Tuberville. "I'm a father first and a coach second, and it's always hard to put your thoughts into words during times like these. Chamoda was a talented non-scholarship player and a key member of our scout teams. He worked hard and earned his spot on the roster. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family." The university said the football team is still scheduled to play Ohio State at 6 p.m. Saturday in Columbus. A moment of silence will be held before the game in memory of Kennedy-Palmore.
