Jasper, AL : 2 dead, child injured in fiery dump truck wreck on U.S. 78 near Jasper on Tuesday, August 30, 2016
A child was injured and two people were killed after a dump truck struck a vehicle on U.S. 78 near Jasper on Tuesday, Alabama State Troopers said.
Spokesman Reginal King said a 17-year-old female was pronounced dead at the scene after a 2001 Peterbilt dump truck hit the 2003 Ford Focus the female was driving at 7:10 a.m. The truck driver, Pell City resident Chris Allen Leberte, 56, sustained fatal injuries after the truck caught on fire.
The teen was not wearing a seatbelt, King said. A 12-year-old who was a passenger in the Ford was transported to Children's Hospital of Alabama in Birmingham.
The teen's name was not released. Troopers are continuing to investigate the crash.
