Colbert County, AL: Two persons killed in a separate two fatal car crash on Wednesday evening August 5th 2015
Alabama State Troopers report there were two fatal car crashes in Colbert County Wednesday evening. Both were single-vehicle accidents.
The first was at about 6:30 p.m. on Lagrange Road about six miles south of Leighton. Christopher Ted Mathis, 42, of Tuscumbia was killed when the 1992 Ford F-150 he was driving left the roadway and struck a tree. Mathis was transported to Helen Keller Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
There was another wreck on Asphalt Rock Road about five miles west of Cherokee shortly before 8 p.m. Kiersten Nancy Paige Nichols, 18, of Cherokee was a passenger in a 2005 Kia Spectra. Troopers say the Kia entered a curve, left the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned. Nichols was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers say she was not wearing a seat belt.
The vehicle's driver was transported to Helen Keller Hospital.
