Savannah, GA : Man dead following the crash of his motorcycle on Montgomery Cross Road on Saturday night September 20th 2014
Traffic officers from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police Department are investigating the death of a Savannah man following the crash of his motorcycle on Montgomery Cross Road on Saturday.
SCMPD responded to a motorcycle crash around 11 p.m. on Saturday night shutting down Montgomery Cross Road between Sallie Mood Drive and Truman Parkway.
Brian Kelly Sykes, age 42, was killed in the accident after he was thrown from the motorcycle and then struck by a car according to SCMPD spokesman Julian Miller.
The 1999 Suzuki motorcycle he was riding was traveling east on Montgomery Cross Road when he lost control and struck the south curb of the roadway.
The motorcycle traveled off the south side of the roadway and tumbled through the grass shoulder before coming to a rest in a parking lot, leaving Sykes in the east bound lane.
An 81-year-old Savannah man traveling east on Montgomery Cross Road was not able to stop when he saw Sykes and ran over his body.
The collision continues to be investigated by the Major Accident Investigation Team, MAIT.
