Burlington , VT : 24 years old man neck was injured after his 2001 Kia Rio struck a tree and split in crash on Sunday, December 21st 2014

A Middlebury man broke his neck and remained in a Burlington hospital Monday after a late-night crash Sunday on Route 30.

Todd Brigham, 24, was taken first to Porter Hospital in Middlebury and then to the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington after his 2001 Kia Rio struck a tree and split in half, according to Vermont State Police.

A spokeswoman at the Burlington hospital said Brigham remained there on Monday evening but had no information about his condition.

Police say Brigham was driving on the highway at about 11:40 p.m. when he went off the road and struck a tree. The cause of the crash remains under investigation and police said criminal charges against Brigham are possible pending the results of a blood test.
