Waverly, FL : One person died, One critically injured in Fort Myers crash early Sunday, April 17, 2016

A Fort Myers man was killed early Sunday when the car he was a passenger in crashed into a store along Palm Beach Boulevard near Waverly Avenue.

The Florida Highway Patrol reported that Girard Battles, 40, of Lehigh Acres, was driving east on Palm Beach just west of Waverly around 3 a.m.

At the intersection with Waverly, Battles lost control of his 1994 Honda Accord, which began to rotate clockwise as it left the roadway and traveled onto the south shoulder and hitting the side of La Casita de Colores Caravaca building at 4548 Palm Beach Boulevard.

After impact with the building, the car rotated clockwise against the building and Battles was ejected.

The car came to final rest facing northeast on Palm Beach and Battles was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

A passenger in Battle's car, Darren Lee Pollard, 20, was pronounced dead at the scene.
