Billings, MT : Three seriously injured in a three-vehicle crash in Billings on Saturday morning, December 20, 2014
A three-vehicle crash near the intersection of South Frontage Road and Wise Lane in Billings sent three people to the hospital Saturday afternoon.
According to Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Jerald Perman, the occupants of a Saab convertible vehicle -- a male driver, approximately 20, and two females, age 17 and 19 -- were transported to Billings hospitals for extensive injuries including broken bones.
Perman said the Saab convertible that the three young adults were traveling in was headed eastbound on South Frontage Road toward to Billings.
As it approached two other vehicles traveling westbound on South Frontage Road, the Saab swerved across the center line and then over-corrected, striking the two oncoming vehicles.
It is unknown why the vehicle swerved, said Perman.
A Ford Taurus involved in the crash received minor damage but a Ford F350 that was following the Taurus collided with the Saab nearly head-on.
Perman said the injuries sustained by the occupants could have been much worse. "It looked better than what the cars would suggest," he said.
The 17-year-old female was the most seriously injured, according to Perman. However, the full extent of her injuries was not available as of Saturday night.
No citations have been issued and the investigation is ongoing.
It was not immediately clear whether speed or alcohol were factors in the crash nor whether all occupants of the vehicles were wearing seat belts.
Perman said he would provide updates if more information becomes available.
