Acton, CA : Granada Hills man killed in rollover crash on 14 Freeway in Agua Dulce on Sunday, June 28, 2015
A Granada Hills man died early Sunday morning after his jeep overturned and he was partly ejected on the 14 Freeway in the Agua Dulce area, according to the California Highway Patrol and coroner’s officials.
The man was identified as 56-year-old Brian Scott Wassell, said Lt. Fred Corral of the L.A. County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner. At about 12:55 a.m., a 2014 white Jeep Wrangler traveling southbound on the Antelope Valley Freeway north of Escondido Canyon Road left the roadway and continued off the right shoulder traveling southbound on the dirt for about 160 feet, according to a statement read by CHP Officer Monica Posada.
The jeep then re-entered the roadway, traveled in an easterly direction across all traffic lanes before striking a raised concrete curve at the east roadway edge of the freeway, Posada said. The jeep then overturned, partly ejecting the driver, she said. The man suffered major head trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. No other vehicles were involved and there were no passengers in the car, she said.
Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor but the CHP investigation is ongoing, she said. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time, she added.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 1 a.m. shutting down all southbound lanes of the Antelope Valley Freeway for its investigation, then reopened lanes 1, 2 and 4 at 1:26 a.m., keeping lane 3 closed, City News reported.
